Introduction
Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) was established in 1972 by the Government of Nepal as the Hotel Management and Tourism Training Centre (HMTTC) with the support of UNDP and ILO, with the prime objective of producing skilled workforce for the then-nascent tourism and hospitality industry of Nepal. After introducing the Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) program in Nepal in 1999, erstwhile HMTTC was renamed NATHM. The academy then launched the Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management (BTTM) program in 2003 and then realizing the demand for higher-level manpower in the growing tourism and hospitality industry, the academy launched the Master of Hospitality Management in 2011.
All the academic programs at NATHM are affiliated with Tribhuvan and Kathmandu University. Apart from the educational programs of undergraduate and graduate level, NATHM provides myriads of short-term training in tourism and hospitality including Tourist Guide, Trekking Guide, River Guide, Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Barista, etc.
Along with the in-house training, NATHM reaches parts and parcels of Nepal through its widely sought-after mobile outreach training on local guides, homestay management, small hotel and lodge management, etc.
Recognizing the growing demand for these easily employable courses of NATHM, the academy has already decided to open branches in all seven provinces of Nepal since 2020. One branch of NATHM has begun its operation from Bardibas of province number two. The expansion of NATHM will undoubtedly enhance its scope and a large section of Nepalese society will benefit from the courses offered by this institution.
